Lion King at the Orpheum, Memphis
The incredible choreography carefully executed with the beautifully designed costumes, incorporating everything from stilts to puppetry, is absolutely amazing. The lighting design adds equally to the shows overall "WOW" factor, making it a stunning visual delight. Adding to the fun, the actors drew on local humor to mix in with the show's many jokes and puns, keeping people laughing and the audience energized.
We enjoyed the Chat Session after the show, where the Young Simba and Nala came out with the actor who played Pumba and fielded questions from the 20 or so people who had stayed. I was very impressed with the 11 and 12-year-old actors who had just performed their 5th show with the company, handling things like old pros.
From a viewing perspective, the seats were great. Unfortunately, the sound where we were sitting (right rear of orchestra section, under the mezzanine) was muddy, with much of the diction unclear. We also had an air vent that blew cold air on us throughout the show, and it was quite noisy. This could have contributed to our hearing problems.
I would go again just to watch the opening scene, "Circle of Life" and the opening to Act 2, which were jaw-droppingly awesome.
